KAT takes part in Spay Day activities
23 February – 3 March, 2010
Chapali Gaon, Budanilkantha

Created by the Doris Day Animal League in 1995, Spay Day is the first and only international day of action to promote the spaying or neutering of stray animals, more specifically, cats and dogs. Spaying, also known as Ovariohysterectomy, removes the uterus and ovaries of the female animal, preventing estrus entirely and is the only way to prevent pregnancy in female dogs or cats. Kathmandu Animal Treatment (KAT) Centre, an NGO founded by Jan Salter, participated in a week-long Animal Birth Control (ABC) program at a discounted rate in partnership with the following private clinics: Kathmandu Veterinary Clinic, Maharajgunj; Pet Clinicare ‘n’ Vet Consultancy, Baluwatar; Animal Care Clinic, Galfutaar; Animal Hospital and Research Centre, Baneshwor; and Capital Mobile Vet Clinic, Chandol.
KAT’s mission is to create a rabies-free, non-breeding and healthy street dog population through its ABC and anti-rabies vaccination programs for the benefit of the people in the Kathmandu Valley. Since May 2004, KAT has spayed 6,880 dogs, preventing a further estimated 55,040 street puppies from being born (taking into consideration an average of four pups per litter twice a year).
