Naag Panchami

The day falls on the fifth day after solar eclipse in the month of Shrawan. It is dedicated to worship sacred snakes. On this day lord Krishna defeated serpent Kalia which dwelled inside the pond near the playground where the lord used to play with his childhood friends.

 

30 AUGUST
Gokarna Aunsi
(Fathers Day)

Nepali religion, tradition and culture hold a lot of reverence for a father. He is considered the pillar of strength, respect and support by the rest in the family. This is most auspicious day to honor one’s father and is also called Gokarna Aunsi.

16 August
Janai Purnima & Raksha Bandhan

Janai or the sacred thread worn by Brahmins and Chhetris are to be mandatorily changed on this day. This is also the day of Raksha Bandhan when male, females and children, regardless of their castes, tie a sacred yellow thread around their wrists. Raksha means protection and Bandhan means a bond. It is believed that the thread must only be removed on Laxmi Puja, three months later, and tied to the tail of a cow.

Bagmati Dunga Daud
(Rafting Challenge)

To restore, conserve and protect the rivers of Nepal through affirmative action and education, whilst maintaining the cultural integrity of local riverside communities, Nepal River Conservation Trust (NRCT) organizes Bagmati River Festival each year. The Rafting Challenge is also held on this day.

Krishna Astami
Krishna Ashtami, also known as Janmashtami, is celebrated by Hindus to commemorate the birth of Lord Krishna. Hindu mythology says he was born on this day at midnight inside a prison cell. The lord’s parents were held captive by his would be maternal uncle, a ruthless king, who had dreamt that the eighth child—the lord himself—from his sister would be his slayer.

Child Psychology
